Andy Kelleher, Film Director
Second Spring / 2021
'Second Spring is Andy's debut feature film. They started filming back in 2016 and it was released to critical acclaim in UK cinemas and digitally in September 2021. Selected screenings were followed by a QnA.
'I wanted to tell a story that really involved an audience. It follows a character who is behaving out of sorts, those closest to her have noticed this but she is oblivious to the change within her. It's about human behaviour, how people can change and the devastating effect of illness - the fragility of a human being. It's an intimate film, told in a slightly unconventional way.'
'It was terrific working with Jonas and Cathy, fantastic collaborators. I also enjoyed working with the other cast and crew'. Peter Zummo scored the film and the soundtrack will be released on vinyl.
It is the last feature film to be shot on Fujifilm - both s16mm and 35mm. 'I love working with film, especially Fuji with its muted hues and particular skintones.'
BBFC rating; 15

Other work
In 2014 the BFI produced a 90 minute arts documentary that Andy directed, called "Out Of His Own Light". It was screened to a sell out audience at the BFI Southbank. He did a QnA afterwards and the film received very positive feedback. He has made a number of short films that have screened at film festivals around the world and been broadcast on television. He is currently working on a new script, "Detour", a character led drama / thriller. It is set in contemporary London and tells the story of a young man who commits a crime out of financial desparation. It's intended to resonate with a broad audience whilst still having an 'art house' appeal. |
